Conventional desings

In conventional optical coating designs, the refractive index of the materials used for the high and low index layers alternates periodically throughout the entire thickness of the coating stack. This structured variation is precisely engineered to achieve optimal optical performance for a specific central wavelength.

Example:

In a quarter-wave stack design, the optical thickness of each layer is a quarter of the central wavelength, resulting in destructive interference at specific wavelengths and producing highly efficient reflective or anti-reflective coatings. The high-index layers and low-index layers alternate, allowing the stack to manage light transmission, reflection, or absorption in a highly controlled manner.

This alternating structure ensures that the coating operates efficiently at the designed wavelength, making it suitable for applications such as architectural glass, laser optics, and display technology.
